Description:

In the summer of 1935, the water level of the Liao River in Heilongjiang rose to unprecedented heights. A fisherman, while fishing, unexpectedly discovered the floating corpse of a peculiar species in the reeds. Upon identification, local aquatic scientists quickly classified it as a "drowned dragon-like creature." However, what should have been a sensational news story faded into silence after all related personnel were silenced. Along with this disappearance, the remaining skeletal remains of the species also vanished.

In half a month, the China-U.S. Cooperative Society will be established. A temporary team formed by American research institutions, driven by undisclosed motives, will head to the source of the Liao River in Heilongjiang for "routine operations," but ultimately loses permanent contact with the outside world at latitude 37 degrees north.

In light of the pressure from the Allies, the Kuomintang government promptly dispatched a reinforced company for search and rescue operations. However, the rescue team was completely annihilated, with only one American professor escaping in a state of madness, clutching a roll of film tightly in his hand. No one knows what was actually captured on the film; all that is known is that those who witnessed its actual content were left utterly speechless. Subsequently, the area was permanently sealed off and designated as "Latitude 37 Degrees North." All related testimonies and documents were classified as top secret yellow papers and stored in the safe of the military leader.

Only in the following year, the War of Resistance against Japan broke out, and the nine provinces in Northeast China quickly fell. The Nanjing government faced a life-and-death crisis. However, soon, the Nationalist Army's spies discovered that the reasons behind the Japanese army's initiation of the July 7 Incident were not as simple as previously imagined. ... For alongside the Kwantung Army entering China, there was also a mysterious force known as the 'Epidemic Prevention and Water Supply Department,' which seemed to harbor the same objectives as the earlier Sino-American scientific expedition team.

Upon learning the truth, the central authority was shaken. An urgent order, personally signed by Chiang Kai-shek, was issued to the Military Intelligence Bureau, demanding that Dai Li spare no effort, disregard any sacrifices, and allow no questioning, to swiftly identify new candidates and re-enter the area at 37 degrees north latitude to thwart the Japanese conspiracy

After careful consideration, Dai Li placed five personnel files in front of him... At this moment, a fierce battle to defend Shanghai had also begun...

The omnipotence of the Military Unification Bureau has finally brought together these seemingly unrelated individuals. There is Yang Kai, a meticulous officer from the special operations training team; Professor Hua Botao, who is experienced yet pedantic, effortlessly knowledgeable in paleobiology; Zhang Hesheng, a taciturn Taoist adept in exorcism and warding off evil; and Mo Jinchen, a pawnshop owner skilled in cunning tricks, who once collaborated with Sun Dianying to excavate the tomb of Empress Dowager Cixi. Additionally, there are seasoned veterans like the One-Eyed Dragon, Nine Tubes, Stone, and Zhao Yongde.

The midnight flight cast them into the snow-covered Greater Khingan Range, as the Japanese army's martial law in the occupied areas forced them to traverse this land of death in order to reach that mysterious destination

The ghostly bonfire site set up by the forest guardian, the mountain demon that lurks by day and emerges at night, the transformed hundred-flower python, the underground burial pits of the Xianbei people guarded by winter men and summer grasses, and the unexpected Huang Daxian temple encountered along the way

When they had gone through life-and-death struggles and finally arrived at the designated location, they were astonished to find that all the shocking experiences they had encountered before were, in fact, so trivial...
